About Harrow School

A boarding school for boys aged 13-18, founded in 1572 under a Royal Charter granted by Elizabeth I. Through the boarding model, we are able to use the whole day productively: the timings of games and lessons change with the seasons and the available light; groups and societies meet after prep and at weekends; and extra subjects find room around the timetable.

“Many boys at Harrow benefit from our means-tested bursary provision. Bursary support is considered for strong candidates upon application to the School. Bursaries can be awarded either independent from or dependent on obtaining a scholarship.”

How they teach

Harrow’s 324 acres comprise six conservation areas, a registered park, a nine-hole golf course and even a working farm. Coupled with its buildings of special architectural and historic interest, the School has the quality of a village.

Outcomes

Where students go

Harrow’s outgoing Upper Sixth have achieved outstanding A-level results. These strong A-level results have translated into a positive set of university outcomes with Harrovians currently set to take up places at six of the eight Ivy League schools in the USA and 110 boys taking places at institutions in the QS top 100, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Our Assessment

How Harrow School performs

Expert Staff

Coaching Credentials

Experienced and well-supported House teams, who are consistently visible and approachable. Each House team consists of a House Master, Assistant House Master and Matron, all of whom are resident within the boarding House.

Student Care

Student Wellbeing

Rather than being one single, distinguishable aspect of what we do, comprehensive and effective pastoral care underpins a boy’s entire experience of Harrow.

Curriculum

Academic Integration

One of the most important components of our curriculum is our comprehensive PSHE Education programme, designed to prepare boys for life in the 21st Century.

Achievements

Competitive Pathway

The upper-end of our extensive team list (numbering over 20 in each of our major sports) regularly win county and national championships, and our elite sportsmen have an impressive record of achievement at the highest levels internationally; some go on to enjoy professional careers.

Facilities

Facilities & Resources

Surrounded by acres of sports fields, astroturf pitches, a golf course, a swimming pool, a sports centre, and numerous tennis, rackets and fives courts, we offer a breadth of sporting opportunities to match every interest and ability. Many boys play several sports, and unique occasions like the annual Cricket match versus Eton provide memorable highlights in the calendar.

Progress

Ongoing Accountability

Some Harrovians who do not consider themselves athletes when they arrive at the School discover new sports and the talent to play them with great skill and flair. Many continue to enjoy the sporting abilities they discovered at Harrow long after leaving the Hill, taking the lessons they have learnt with them into adulthood.

Admissions &
How to Apply

Prospective students must register by the end of Year 5 and sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test in Year 6. Successful candidates are invited for an interview and assessment day in Year 7.
